چکیده

This paper presents an optimisation model for the synthesis of heat exchanger networks (HEN) including the detailed design of the equipments formulated as a decomposition method. Shell and tube pressure drops and fouling are considered, as well as mechanical aspects, like shell and tube bundle diameters, internal and external diameter of tubes, number of tubes, number of baffles, number of shells, tube length, tube arrangement and the fluid allocation in the heat exchanger. The optimisation model is based on area, energy and pumping costs. The algorithm combines two distinct models, in a decomposition method, a Mixed Integer NonLinear Programming (MINLP) superstructure simultaneous optimisation model for the heat exchanger network synthesis considering stream splitting, assuming isothermal mixing and a MINLP model for the detailed equipment design, following rigorously the standards of the TEMA. Two examples from the literature are used to test the algorithm developed, and the results confirm the achievement of the optimum HEN configuration with the detailed heat exchangers design, following the TEMA standards.

Cost Effective Heat Exchanger Network Design with Mixed Materials of Construction

This paper presents a simple methodology for cost estimation of a near optimal heat exchanger network, which comprises mixed materials of construction. Intraditional pinch technology and mathematical programming it is usually assumed that all heat exchangers in a network obey a single cost model. This implies that all heat exchangers  in a network are of the same type and use the same mate...

Energy Management and Process Improvement of Methanol Production

A heat exchanger network (HEN) for the process of methanol synthesis has been studied by combination of pinch design method and the application of “Twisted Tube” heat exchanger units as a new technology. The HEN is reconstructed based on the full utilization of maximum allowable pressure drops for the process hot and cold streams. An algorithm is developed to generate design procedure for twist...

MINLP synthesis of heat exchanger networks considering pressure drop effects

Considerable research effort has been reported in both Pinch Technology and MINLP techniques for the synthesis of heat exchanger networks. However, most of the design procedures assume constant stream heat transfer coefficients. A problem arises because there is no guarantee that the values of the coefficients assumed during network synthesis are the same as those actually achieved in detailed ...
